10 Short Films you cannot miss at the 24th Busan International Film Festival

We present a list of ten short films that you shouldn’t miss at the 24th Busan International Film Festival which will take place from October 3rd – 12th, in Busan, Korea.

About the festival:
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held annually in Haeundaegu, Busan (Korea) is one of the most important film festivals in Asia, together with the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival. Since the first edition in 1996, the festival aim to introduce new films and first-time directors to the world. Another notable feature is the appeal of the festival to young people, both in terms of the large youthful audience it attracts and through its efforts to develop and promote young talent.

AKA 5JO by Lee Kyeong-won – Korea | 2019 – 15 minutes

Section: Korean Short Film Competition | World Premiere
A has-been rap star and his old fan accidentally ride the Ferris Wheel together in an amusement park. The short story AKA 5JO is from the Omnibus feature, Different People with the Same Name Project Season 3. (Kang Sowon)

Basurero by Eileen Cabiling – Philippines, USA | 2019 – 17 minutes

Section: Asian Short Film Competition | World Premiere
The lure of money is intense for a poor fisherman in the Philippines. He feels conflicted between the money and his conscience to make a living by dumping dead bodies in the sea killed by someone. (Park Sungho)

Birdland by Kogahara Takeshi – Japan | 2019 – 20 minutes

Section: Asian Short Film Competition | World Premiere
An old and sick man lives a dismal life where he cannot even manage his own bowels without a social worker’s visit. Missing his wife who left passed away, he gives up his hope for life… (Park Sungho)

Erotica by Gavin Lin – Taiwan | 2018 – 27 minutes

Section: Short Film Showcase | International Premiere
A novelist past her prime, Fang Yuan-Yi accidentally discovers a manuscript with a similar style at her publisher’s office. She steals the work and is determined to find the copycat. She arrives at an apartment and is greeted by Wang Jen-Yu, a young wheelchair bound polio survivor. (Kang Sowon)

Hello by Jin Seong-moon – Korea | 2019 – 25 minutes

Section: Korean Short Film Competition | World Premiere
Ju-young tries to call her friend So-mi for her birthday after a long time but finds out that he has lost So-mi’s cell phone number. Ju-young is searching for So-mi all day, finds out what she didn′t know about So-mi, and recalls the memory of the day she had forgotten. (Kang Sowon)

How are you, Joo-hee by Choi Min-goo – Korea | 2019 – 22 minutes

Section: Korean Short Film Competition | World Premiere
From a certain moment, Gyeong-woo, a job seeker, is murmuring Joo-hee’s name, his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him. He wants to meet Juhee and tells her this story, but her whereabouts are unknown. Will Joo-hee get along well? (Kang Sowon)

No One is Crazy in This Town by Wregas Bhanuteja – Indonesia | 2019 – 21 minutes

Section: Asian Short Film Competition | World Premiere
The resort owner of a quiet island tries to remove all the crazy people from the village because he doesn′t want to show them to foreign tourists. But the village′s profits are actually made in unexpected way… (Park Sungho)

Nose by Yoon Hanna – Korea | 2019 – 27 minutes

Section: Korean Short Film Competition | World Premiere
Covering her injured nose, Hanna goes looking for Hyun-soo, her boyfriend. Hyun-soo disappeared, and while dealing with Hyun-soo’s tutee Jaewoo and Jae-woo’s mom who are rude all the time, and the unwelcome guest, Min-ok, Hyun-soo′s mother for a few days, Hanna feels some disturbance in her heart. Starex by Roh Dohyeon – Korea | 2019 – 14 minutes

Section: Korean Short Film Competition | World Premiere
Chu-hyun working for the production department has poor field skills. He drives a “Starex” van to pick up an actor. However, there is a mistake at the pickup site, and a woman named Heera, a prostitute, happens to get on Chuhyun’s Starex van. (Kang Sowon)

Sweet, Salty by Duong Dieu Linh – Vietnam | 2019 – 19 minutes

Section: Asian Short Film Competition
Ms. Ha, a 40-year-old pregnant woman, prepares for a fight against her husband′s hidden lover. It’s about Ms. Ha’s neighbors who are supportive or gossiping, her two grown daughters, and her own story. (Park Sungho)
