We continue with our list of films that shouldn’t miss at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival which will take place from November 11th – 28th, 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan.

About the festival:
The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (TGHFF) is the largest film festival in Taiwan. Starting in 1980 as a non-competitive showcase, TGHFF aims at introducing prominent cinema from around the world, in order to promote cinema as an art form and to enhance intercultural understanding through cinema.

No.7 Cherry Lane by Yonfan – Hong Kong | 2019 – 125 minutes
Section: Chinese Global Vision

No.7 Cherry Lane tells the tale of Ziming, a Hong Kong University undergraduate, entangled between his amorous feelings for a self-exiled mother Mrs. Yu from Taiwan in the White Terror period and her beautiful daughter Meiling. He takes them to different movies and through a series of magical moments on the big screen, forbidden passions are revealed. And the era coincides with Hong Kong’s turbulent times of 1967.

Revolution of Our Times by Kiwi Chow – Hong Kong | 2021 – 152 minutes
Section: Golden Horse Award Nominated Films

In 2019, the introduction of the extradition bill in Hong Kong has turned the city into a battlefield against the Chinese authoritarian rule. Kiwi Chow made this documentary as a historical record of the movement and personal accounts of the Hongkongers on the front line. The film is not only about the battle of Hongkongers but also the struggles of freedom lovers against dictatorships around the world.

20-year-old Samnang lives in the White Building, a landmark tenement in Phnom Penh, but it is to be demolished. Samnang watches his father unsuccessfully attempting to bring together his divided neighbours on the government’s compensation offers for residents to move out. Moreover, he must face his best friend’s departure from Cambodia. Samnang finds that the stable environment he has always called home is on shaky ground.
