These are twenty-two films you shouldn’t miss at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival which will take place from November 11th – 28th, 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan.

About the festival:
The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (TGHFF) is the largest film festival in Taiwan. Starting in 1980 as a non-competitive showcase, TGHFF aims at introducing prominent cinema from around the world, in order to promote cinema as an art form and to enhance intercultural understanding through cinema.

A Letter to A’ma by Chen Hui-ling – Taiwan | 2021 – 105 minutes

Through a student art project guided by Chen, the teacher, a representational portrait of the collective memory of an island begins to emerge. Taiwan has experienced 400 years of colonisation, followed by a recent 50 years of dictatorship. Yet it is now becoming the front of a potential war between world powers. How will Taiwan be able to rebuild the identity of its people in the postcolonial era?

Wang asked his friend to call an ambulance and yet his girlfriend’s parents accused them of murder. They weren’t prosecuted until a witness changed his statement, claiming that they threw the victim off the bridge. In 2013, Taiwan Innocence Project decided to help them to overturn the verdict, but how?

Their son’s wedding is taking place soon and Mrs. Yan must get her husband back to fulfil his duty.

An elementary school in the mountains is to be abolished due to the decreasing population. The PE teacher is assigned to form a choir and to win the national choir contest to solve the crisis. With limited resource and absolutely no music background, the PE teacher and a group of tone-deaf students start to prepare for the contest. The choir and their community eventually find their own voice and identity.
