11th Cinema Rehiyon – Opening Film


The organizers of the Cinema Rehiyon announced that the opening film will be Balangiga: Howling Wilderness directed by Khavn dela Cruz.

The Cinema Rehiyon will open their activities on February 25th with the screening of “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness” directed by Khavn dela Cruz, at the Luce Auditorium (Silliman University). The festival will run from February 25th until March 1st in Dumaguete City (Negros Oriental) in various venues; Robinsons MovieWorld Cinema, Silliman University, Foundation University, Negros Oriental State University and the Hotel Essencia (Film Industry Conferences)

Apart form the screening of features and short films the festival will present a series of Conferences & Workshops on Production & Distribution.

BalangigaBalangiga: Howling Wilderness by Khavn dela Cruz
Philippines | 2018 – 120 minutes

1901, Balangiga. Eight-year-old Kulas flees town with his grandfather and their carabao to escape General Smith’s “Kill & Burn” order. He finds an infant amid a sea of corpses and together, the two boys struggle to survive the American occupation.

About the festival:
Cinema Rehiyon, now on its 11th installation, serves as the largest melting pot of stories from the various regions in the Philippines and is organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. The annual event is the flagship program of NCCA under the Cinema Committee done in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), DAKILA, the Dumaguete City Tourism Office and Foundation University.
