AsianFilmFestivals will audit the film distribution during the PPP 2018

Following our successful Report on the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival, we decided to look into the film distribution during the Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP), a nationwide Filipino festival that will take place from August 15-21, 2018.

The objective of this Research is to provide a clear view of the film distribution during the 2018 Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino and how Cinemas treat each Film. One of the biggest change this year was that films previously shown in the Philippines (other festivals) were not able to submit to the PPP. This decision made a lot of noise for some filmmakers who question the real objective of the festival and if Cinema Owners are pulling some strings.

The Official PPP films are:
Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi by Jun Robles Lana
Bakwit Boys by Jason Paul Laxamana
Madilim ang Gabi by Adolfo Alix, Jr.
Pinay Beauty by Jay Abello
Signal Rock by Chito Roño
The Day After Valentine’s by Jason Paul Laxamana
Unli Life by Miko Livelo
We Will Not Die Tonight by Richard Somes

For the Short Film Competition (Sine Kabataan) the films selected were:
Alas Nuebe Ng Tanghali by Enalyn Legaspi
Anonymous Student Vlog by Christian Babista
Bahay-bahayan by Brian Spencer Reyes
Bato Bato Pik by Lorys Plaza
Isang Tula Para Sa Nawawala by Rod Singh
Koleksyong Pamalo by Jocelyn Frago
Masaya Ako by Daniel Delgado
Runner by Levi Jun Miscala

There will be a Special Feature Section with the screening of “Gusto Kita With All My Hypothalamuys” by Dwein Baltazar (Cine Filipino 2018), “High Tide” by Tara Illenberger (ToFarm Film Festival 2017), “Paki” by Gian Carlo Abrahan (Cinemaone Originals 2017) and “Tu Pug Imatuy” by Arnel Barbarona (Sinag Maynila 2017).
