
The Kolkata People’s Film Festival (India) is accepting south asian films until October 15, 2026.
About the festival:
The Kolkata People’s Film Festival (KPFF), organised by the People’s Film Collective, started its journey in 2014. Over the past 13 years, it has grown to become an important part of the counter-culture movement in the city of Kolkata and beyond.
The KPFF is a volunteer-led non-sponsored cultural programme which does not accept any governmental, corporate or institutional sponsorships. It runs solely on the strength of grassroots community support and voluntary donations made by individual supporters.
Eligibility:
– The festival accepts shorts and features both fiction and documentary films.
– The festival primarily prefers contemporary political documentary cinema from India and the rest of South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka), including the South Asian diaspora. But they also accepts fiction cinema from India and South Asia, which in their aesthetics and commitment, speaks to our political present.
– Films must have been produced after October 1, 2025.
– The festival will give strong priority to films which would have at least a Kolkata premiere at KPFF. Indian, International and World premiers would be heartily welcomed.
– Films that have been released online in India will not be considered.
– Films may be in any South Asian language, but have to be subtitled in English.
– A film that has been submitted for an earlier edition of the festival and not been selected, will not be considered again.
– Submission Fee: $ 6 USD
– Deadline: October 15, 2026
– Notification Date: December 15, 2026
