PROCESS: The Evolving DNA of a City, Kumamoto by Kim Soodong – South Korea | 2026 – 28 minutes | World Premiere
The film explores how public architecture transforms a city’s DNA through the 38-year legacy of “Kumamoto Artpolis (KAP),” which began in 1988. It captures the voices of master architects, including KAP commissioner Toyo Ito, while tracing the living, breathing works of architecture found throughout Kumamoto—such as Riken Yamamoto’s collective housing and Hiroshi Ota’s Takamori Station. Within a virtuous cycle where administrative autonomy is guaranteed and architects can fully unleash their creativity, spaces transcend mere physical structures to weave themselves into the daily lives of citizens.
