Singapore International Film Festival – Film Funds 2024

The Singapore International Film Festival is accepting projects for the Southeast Asian-Short Film Grant (SEA-SHORTS) and the Southeast Asian Documentary Grant (SEA-DOC) until February 5, 2024. *Only for filmmakers from Southeast Asia*

About the grants:
SGIFF offers two film grants for Southeast Asian film projects. These grants are dedicated to supporting filmmakers with compelling stories to tell across both fiction and non-fiction genres.

The SGIFF Southeast Asian-Short Film (SEA-SHORTS) Grant

This grant aims to be a launchpad for the brightest upcoming names in filmmaking from the region. In 2024, the grant support will be awarded to three short films, each with a cash amount of S$5,000 and post-production support worth S$5,000.

Rules and Regulations:
– Applicants must fulfil ALL of the following criteria:
* Be a producer and/or director of the film
* Director of the film MUST be a Southeast Asian citizen
* Director of the film must have completed a previous short film.

-Film must meet ONE of the following criteria:
* Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
* The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.

– Film must meet ALL of the following criteria:
* Films must not have started production at the time of grant application. For short documentaries, the project must not have entered the post-production stage at the time of grant application.
* Films must not be longer than 30 minutes.
* All final films must include English subtitles.

– All genres including drama, animation, documentary and experimental films are accepted.
– All applications must be done in English.
– The short film must be completed within 12 months of awarded grant (dated on letter).
– SGIFF to have at least the Asian premiere of the completed short film.
– Applicants will coordinate the post-production schedule with White Light Studio Co., Ltd within 12 months of awarded grant (dated on letter).

The Tan Ean Kiam Foundation-SGIFF Southeast Asian Documentary (SEA-DOC) Grant

This grant supports the production and post-production of documentaries in Southeast Asia which tell engaging, urgent stories. The grant supports four production projects annually with production projects each receiving S$30,000 in cash, and post-production projects receiving S$20,000 in cash.

*For Production Founding*

Rules and Regulations:
– Applicants must fulfil ALL of the following criteria:
* Be a producer and/or director of the film.
* Director of the film must be a Southeast Asian citizen.
* Director of the film must have completed a previous short film.

– Film must meet one of the following criteria:
* Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam or;
* The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.

– Film must meet ALL of the following criteria:
* Over 60 minutes
* Include English Subtitles

– All applications must be done in English
– Films are expected to be completed within 3 years.
– If recipients are unable to complete principal photography within 2 years of signing the agreement, the agreement will be terminated and no pending instalments on the funding will be paid. SGIFF reserves the right to find a replacement project from the applications submitted.
– SGIFF to have at least the Asian premiere of the completed documentary film.
– Do specify if you are applying for the production grant or the post-production grant.

*For Post-Production Funding*

Rules and Regulations:
– Applicants must fulfil ALL of the following criteria:
* Be a producer and/or director of the film
* Director of the film must be a Southeast Asian citizen.
* Director of the film must have completed a previous short film.

– Film must meet one of the following criteria:
* Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam or;
* The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.

– Film must meet all of the following criteria:
* Over 60 minutes.
* Include English subtitles.

– All applications must be done in English.
– Films must have completed principal photography and be in the editing stage.
– Films are expected to be completed within 12-18 months.
– If recipients are unable to submit a new edit within 12 months of signing the agreement, the agreement will be terminated and no pending instalments on the funding will be paid. SGIFF reserves the right to find a replacement project from the applications submitted.
– SGIFF to have at least the Asian premiere of the completed documentary film.
– Do specify if you are applying for the production grant or the post-production grant.
