
We continue with our list of short films that you shouldn’t miss at the Kaohsiung Film Festival, which is taking place until October 22, 2023 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Longest Night by Liang Hong-kai – Taiwan | 2023 – 19 minutes | World Premiere
In a post-apocalyptic world, Hao survives in a city under the repressive military, chasing ancient inhabitants who have become monstrous. Hao’s girlfriend, Ying, is one of them. Hao tries to protect her despite the danger she represents for him. (KFF 2023)

Luzonensis Osteoporosis by Glenn Barit – Philippines | 2022 – 20 minutes | Asian Premiere
Luzonensis is a prehistoric hominid who is about to leave overseas to be a migrant worker. Hours before departing, he discovers that his passport is missing. Together with his father, they retrace their path to find it. Luzonensis ponders on who he is and his place in this country as their backs ache along the way. (KFF 2023)

Other Life by Roh Do-heyon – Korea | 2022 – 24 minutes | International Premiere
Kyu-ho, an ordinary office worker, receives an interview request from a famous writer and agrees to talk to her. During the interview, Kyu-ho learns that his closest friend hates him the most. (KFF 2023)

Ride to Nowhere by Khozy Rizal – Indonesia | 2022 – 15 minutes | Taiwan Premiere
It is her first day working as a motorcycle taxi driver and she has to do something to prevent order cancellations. (KFF 2023)

Sister by Wu Zi-Yun – Taiwan | 2023 – 20 minutes
Xiao-jei desires everything her older sister has, a rope skipping team, trendy shoes, close friends, and parental attention. “One, two, three, four…” She stares down at her feet… The only way to keep up with her sister is to practice like no one else… (KFF 2023)

Take me to the River by Shao Lin – Taiwan | 2023 – 25 minutes | World Premiere
After years of being away from home, Fan is suddenly summoned back by her relatives to assist with her grandma’s funeral. As she reunites with her aunt Yun, amidst the emotional turmoil of the funeral, they find themselves on an unexpected journey of self-discovery and reconciliation within their complex family dynamics. (KFF 2023)

The Old Young Crow by Liam Lopinto – Japan, USA | 2023 – 12 minutes | Taiwan Premiere
Mehrdad, now an old man, reflects on his time in Tokyo as a boy after his mother’s passing. He recalls an encounter with an elderly woman named Chiyo at a graveyard near his school. Through his old sketchbook, he recounts the tale of her mysterious disappearance as his childhood memories come to life. (KFF 2023)

The Red Suitcase by Cyrus Neshvad – Luxembourg | 2022 – 18 minutes | Asian Premiere
Luxembourg Airport, late in the evening. A veiled 16-year-old Iranian girl is visibly frightened to take her red suitcase on the automatic carpet. She keeps pushing back the moment to go through the arrival gate and seems more and more terrified. (KFF 2023)

The Secret of Time by Dai Wei, Chang Tzu-hsiang – Taiwan | 2023 – 21 minutes | Asian Premiere
In the mountains, “Little Stone” Yan-an, who depends on his grandmother, has to leave her and counts the passing days in lonely anticipation. Unfortunately, he is unable to say goodbye to her in time. Does time really wash away everything? Yan-an believes that time will eventually reunite them. (KFF 2023)

Unofficial History of Time by Teng Kun-hou – Taiwan | 2023 – 25 minutes | World Premiere
Adapted from the short story “Shopping Cart” by writer LIN Xiuhe. The 31-year-old Tong and her partner return to the place where they met in college, passing through Wufu Road, where she was born and grew up, and recalling the hidden period of history in her life. (KFF 2023)
