27th ANIMAC International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia – Asian Presence 2023

We present the Asian films that will be screened at the ANIMAC International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia (Spain) which will take place onsite from February 23 – 26, and online from March 3 – 12, 2023.

A Place in Blue by Seung eon Yi – USA | 2021 – 9 minutes

A girl is searching for her mother in a grocery store and in a forest. At the end of the forest, she encounters passages from her mother’s life.


Eternity by Mirai Mizue – Japan | 2022 – 21 minutes

A 21-minute journey through space that repeats creation and expansion.

Everywhere by Step C. and Ng Kai Chung – Hong Kong | 2022 – 10 minutes

Things that we thought were gone may not truly leave us- perhaps they are still with us somehow. Life is full of ups and downs. Death is a natural part of life. This story inspires us to rethink our life and treasure every moment we have, just like the two inseparable little cats enjoying their life and experiencing the grief of death.


Garisani by Jin Woo – Korea | 2022 – 7 minutes

There is a baby god who was just born with the mission to be a part of the world and help people. But the baby god begins to run away from fate to make a life for him/her self.


How I Grew Up by Yufei Liu- China | 2021 – 8 minutes

There are many unobserved emotions in us. In this film, “I” has a feeling of fear of being doubted by others because of a cup of coffee that has not been thrown away. The whole film revolves around the observation of this emotion. By depicting four trivial events that happen when “I” is growing up, we trace the reasons for the formation of the emotion. Finally, “I” sees what the emotion exactly looks like.


Mi by Masayoshi Nakamura, Zak Engel – USA | 2022 – 5 minutes

This film is the journey of father and son. The young son enters into this crazy and unknown world, and the father tries to guide him though as best as a father could. Somethings the father himself doesn’t fully understand, and he lets the son know that’s ok.

Soaked In by Shiyu Tang – China | 2022 – 5 minutes

At a humid and warm place, I existed.
The whitewashed “gender selection” takes place in two different spaces, where satisfaction and despair mingle.


The Dream Pirate by Lau Chung Keung – Hong Kong | 2022 – 5 minutes

The Law of the Jungle Gym by Yoon Heicho – USA | 2022 – 7 minutes

Lunchtime at a peaceful school, children discover that they can transform into animals, the only problem is when would they stop?


The Story of Chaos by Yu Qing Quek – Singapore | 2022 – 5 minutes

A student presents an imaginative rendition of the ancient Taoist parable of Chaos. She is admonished by her teacher for her unorthodox delivery. Two parallel narratives run through the film: the quashing of the student’s creativity and the death of Chaos in the parable. This stop-motion film underscores the contemporary relevance of Taoist wisdom by cautioning against dogmatism and the disregard for the natural way of things.


Tomato Kitchen by Junyi Xiao – China | 2022 – 9 minutes

An escaped tomato interrupted Lee’s dinner with his colleagues. The dark truth of the Tomato Kitchen along with Lee’s hidden past were revealed by this unexpected incident…
