24th Seoul International Women’s Film Festival – Opening Film

The Janes by Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes will open the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival which will take place from August 25 until September 1, 2022.

Police arrest seven women who are part of a clandestine network. Using code names, blindfolds, and safe houses, the women have built an underground service for women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortions and call themselves “Jane.” (SIWFF 2022)

About the directors:
Tia Lessin, alone with Carl Deal, directed and produced Trouble the Water (2008) and Citizen Koch (2013). Trouble the Water won the Gotham Independent Film Award and the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize, and it earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

Emma Pildes is an Emmy-nominated producer and filmmaker. As one of the principal producers for Pentimento Productions, Pildes has produced Spielberg (2017), Jane Fonda in Five Acts (2018), and Very Ralph (2019), all for HBO Documentary Films.
