Japanese Short Film wins at the 19th Vienna Shorts

“Bird in the Peninsula” by Atsushi Wada was awarded Best Film at the Animation Avantgarde International Competition of the 19th Vienna Shorts which took place from May 25 – 30, 2022.

The boys are rehearsing a dance for their entry into adult life. A girl observes the scene but is not allowed to join in. When one of the boys chases after a strange bird, she follows him without knowing why. (Berlinale 2022)

Comments from the Jury: For the meditative journey full of uncanny rituals and interrupted fantasies, making the viewer a voyeur who shouldn’t be there yet witness the terrific consequences of the characters’ mysterious relationships.
