Docs By The Sea – Call for Projects 2022

The Docs By the Sea is calling for documentary projects until April 22nd, 2022.

About:
Docs by the Sea is an Indonesia-based international lab and forum for documentaries by filmmakers of Indonesian and Southeast Asian nationalities established by In-Docs and Kemenparekraf, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia in 2017.

Docs by the Sea 2022 is also co-organised by Docmonde and FFD, supported by Goethe Institut Indonesia, Institut Français Indonesia, and Franco-German Cultural Fund. This year, they are expanding our selection to docu-filmmakers of ALL Asian nationalities. Selected documentaries will participate in our Storytelling Lab, Editing Lab, and Creative Producing Lab on July 11-21, and a Pitching Forum on August 18-26.

Availability & Access
All labs will be conducted in English. Unless in public eve1ts the program does not provide an individual translator for non-English speaking participants.
All online activities will be conducted between 14:00 to 21:00 UTC+7
Should the quarantine regulations in Indonesia be lifted, producers of selected projects in Development Forum might be required to travel to Indonesia to meet with French and German co-producers.

Call for Entry: From March 1st, 2022 to April 22nd, 2022
Interviews: From May 16th, 2022 to May 20th, 2022
Participant Confirmations: From May 23rd, 2022 to May 27trh, 2022
Labs & Masterclasses: From July 11th, 2022 to July 21st, 2022
Pre-recorded pitch submissions: From August 18th, 2022 to August 21st, 2022
Forum: From August 18th, 2022 to August 26th, 2022

ORIGIN
To be eligible for the Docs by the Sea Labs & Forum, the project must be produced or directed by a national of any of these countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, State of Palestine, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.

Participants will be required to show proof of their nationality upon confirmation.

STAGE OF PRODUCTION

The project submitted is a documentary project at any stage of production, on the condition that there is already a pitch trailer/concept trailer made of the project.

PAST PROJECTS ELIGIBILITY

Condition: Project has reach significant progress after its last participation.

EDITORIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Project is factually accurate with an authentic perspective.
Filmmakers follow best practices in documentary ethics.
Project is designed with a specific audience in mind and have the potential to do well in the global distribution circuit.
Access to the character(s) in project should be secured.
Project is led by emerging filmmakers from Indonesia, Southeast Asia, or other Asian countries with limited access to funding opportunities.
Feasible to be completed, with a realistic budget for the scale of the project and a potential to find sufficient funding; including the filmmaker fee to reflect that all crew will be able to work professionally to complete the film.
Filmmakers chosen for labs are ready to collaborate internationally, or they show potential but need further help to reach the international market.
