70th San Sebastian International Film Festival – Call for Entry 2022

Dear Asian filmmakers, the San Sebastian International Film Festival is accepting feature films until June 20th, 2022.

* Official Selection Rules*
– Films should be over 60 minutes in length.
– Have been produced in the 12 months prior to the start of the Festival.
– World and international premieres will be given priority in the selection process.
– Have not been premiered in any country other than their country or countries of production.
– Films produced or co-produced in countries other than Spain must not have participated in any other festival taking place prior to the dates of the San Sebastian Festival. This excludes festivals accredited by the FIAPF in the category: “non-competitive festivals” and national competitions at festivals in their countries of production.
– Films produced or co-produced in countries other than Spain must not have participated in film events in their countries of production if these are accredited by the FIAPF as falling into the category “competitive festivals”.
– Films totally produced in Spain competing in the Official Selection must be world premieres. They must not have been screened at any other national or international festival or have been publicly released or screened prior to the Festival dates.
– No film presented in the Official Selection can have been publicly screened in Spain prior to its official presentation at the Festival.
– The inclusion in VOD platforms of films participating in the Official Section is not allowed, with the exception of cases where their use is strictly professional and with restricted access.
– The formats accepted for films in the Official Selection are, exclusively DCP and 35mm.
– All of the films selected by the Festival must be presented in their original version. With subtitles in Spanish if the original version of the film is not in Spanish. With subtitles in English if the original version is in Spanish and/or Basque.

* New Directors Section *
– Films should be the 1st or 2nd film from a director.
– Films should be over 60 minutes in length.
– Have been produced in the 12 months prior to the start of the Festival.
– World and international premieres will be given priority when selecting films for the New Directors Section of the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
– Have not been premiered in any country other than their country or countries of production.
– Films produced or co-produced in countries other than Spain must not have participated in any other festival taking place prior to the dates of the San Sebastian Festival. This excludes festivals accredited by the FIAPF in the category “non-competitive festivals” and national competitions at festivals in their countries of production.
– Films produced or co-produced in countries other than Spain must not have participated in film events in their countries of production if these are accredited by the FIAPF as falling into the category: “competitive festivals”.
– Films totally produced in Spain competing in the New Directors Section must be world premieres. They must not have been screened at any national or international festival or have been publicly released or screened prior to the dates of the Festival.
– No film presented in the New Directors Section can have been publicly screened in Spain prior to its official presentation at the Festival.
– In accordance with the previously mentioned production criteria (Article 8, point 5), the inclusion in VOD platforms of films participating in the New Directors Section is not allowed, with the exception of cases where their use is strictly professional and with restricted access.
– The formats accepted for films in the New Directors Section are, exclusively, DCP and 35mm.
– All of the films selected by the Festival must be presented in their original version. With subtitles in Spanish if the original version of the film is not in Spanish. With subtitles in English if the original version is in Spanish and/or Basque.

* Zabaltegi- Tabakalera Section*
– The Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Section of the San Sebastian Festival consists of a selection of the most varied and surprising films of the year, as yet unscreened in Spain.
– Accepts any length and format.
– Films should have been completed in the 12 months prior to the start of the Festival.
– Films should be Spanish Premiere.
– No film presented in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Section can have been publicly screened in Spain prior to its official presentation at the Festival.
– The inclusion in VOD platforms of films participating in the Zabaltegi – Tabakalera Section is not allowed, with the exception of cases where their use is strictly professional and with restricted access.
– If the format is DCP, the Festival Technical Department will send the server certificate to the producers or representatives of the film, in addition to the coordinates for receiving the KDM.
– All of the films selected by the Festival must be presented in their original version. The film subtitles can be in either Spanish or English.

* Perlak Section*
– The Perlak Section of the San Sebastian International Film Festival consists of a selection of the year’s most outstanding feature films, not yet released in Spain, all of which have received critical acclaim and/or awards at other international festivals.
– Films should be over 60 minutes in length.
– Films should have been completed in the 12 months prior to the start of the Festival.
– Not have participated in a Spanish festival taking place prior to their presentation at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
– Not have been commercially released or publicly screened in Spain prior to their official presentation at the Festival.
– The inclusion in VOD platforms of films participating in the Perlak Section is not allowed, with the exception of cases where their use is strictly professional and with restricted access.
– The formats accepted are, exclusively: DCP and 35mm.
– All of the films selected by the Festival must be presented in their original version. With subtitles in Spanish if the original version of the film is not in Spanish. With subtitles in English if the original version is in Spanish and/or Basque.

– Submission Fees:
* Short & Medium Films (Under 59 minutes) – $ 70 Euros (including 21% VAT)
* Feature films (Over 60 minutes) – $ 100 Euros (including 21% VAT)
* DCP in physical format (2.5 hard drive, CRU or similar) – $ 150 Euros (including 21% VAT)
* DCP submitted digitally (Signiant Media Shuttle or similar) – $ 200 Euros (including 21% VAT) no matter what the runtime. In case of choosing this option the Festival will provide with its Signiant Media Shuttle account for the uploading without extra cost.
Deadline: June 20th, 2022
Notification Date: Films not selected will be informed of the decision by email 2-3 weeks after they are received.
