
The Singapore International Film Festival is accepting projects for the Asian-Short Film Grant (SEA-SHORTS) and the Southeast Asian-Documentary Grant (SEADOC) until February 14th, 2022. *Only for filmmakers from Southeast Asia*
About the SEA-SHORTS FILM GRANT
The SGIFF Southeast Asian-Short Film (SEA-SHORTS) Grant aims to be a launchpad for the brightest upcoming names in filmmaking from the region. The grant supports four short films annually, each with a cash amount of S$4,000 and post-production support worth S$4,000.
Eligibility:
– Applications must fulfill ALL of the following criteria: be a producer and/or director of the film, director of the film must be a Southeast Asian citizen, Director of the film must have completed a previous short films.
– Films must meet ONE of the following criteria: Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam OR; The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.
– Films must meet ALL OF the following criteria: Films must not have started production at the time of grant application. For short documentaries, the project must not have entered the post-production stage at the time of grant application. Films must NOT be longer than 30 minutes. Films must include English subtitles.
– All genres including drama, animation, documentary, and experimental films are accepted.
– All applications must be done in English.
– The short film MUST be completed within 12 months of awarded grant (dated on letter).
– SGIFF to have Asian premiere of the completed documentary film.
– Only 4 projects will be selected. All decisions are final.
– Submission Fees: None
– Deadline: February 14th, 2022
– Notification Date: June 30th, 2022 or earlier.

About the SOUTHEAST ASIAN DOCUMENTARY GRANT
The Tan Ean Kiam Foundation-SGIFF Southeast Asian Documentary (SEA-DOC) Grant supports the production and post- production of documentaries in Southeast Asia which tell engaging, urgent stories. The grant is awarded to four mid- or feature-length documentaries annually: two production projects with a cash amount of S$30,000 each and two post-production projects with a cash amount of S$20,000 each.
*Production Founding*
Eligibility:
– Applications must fulfil ALL OF the following criteria: be a producer and/or director of the film, director of the film must be a Southeast Asian citizen, Director of the film must have completed a previous short film.
– Film must meet ONE OF the following criteria: Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam OR; The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.
– Films must meet ALL OF the following criteria: Over 60 minutes, and include English subtitles.
– All applications must be done in English.
– Films are expected to be completed within 3 years.
– Applicants MUST be a producer and/or director of the documentary, director of the documentary MUST be of Southeast Asia descent and citizen.
– Film MUST be shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. And majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.
– Applicants MUST have at least made two (2) previous short films.
– SGIFF to have at least the Asian premiere of the completed documentary film.
– Submission Fees: None
– Deadline: February 14th, 2022.
– Notification Date: June 30th, 2022 or earlier.
*Post-Production Funding*
Eligibility:
– Applications must fulfil ALL OF the following criteria: Be a producer and/or director of the film, Director of the film must be a Southeast Asian citizen, Director of the film must have completed a previous short film.
– Films must meet ONE OF the following criteria: Shot in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam or; The majority of the key cast and creative crew are of Southeast Asian descent or citizens.
– Films must meet ALL OF the following criteria: Over 60 minutes, include English subtitles.
– All applications must be done in English.
– Films must have completed principal photography and be in the editing stage.
– Films are expected to be completed within 12-18 months.
– SGIFF to have at least the Asian premiere of the completed documentary film.
– Submission Fees: None
– Deadline: February 14th, 2022.
– Notification Date: June 30th, 2022 or earlier.
