10 Films you cannot miss at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

We present a list of ten films you cannot miss at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival which will take place from June 27th – July 7th, in Bucheon, South Korea.

All the Gods in the Sky by Quarxx – France | 2018 – 110 minutes
Section: World Fantastic Red

Simon works at a factory and lives on a farm with his severely handicapped younger sister, Estelle, who was severely handicapped in a childhood game. Simon hopes to save his sister by liberating her from the weight of the world. What if their salvation was coming from “them”?

Aniara by Pella Kagerman & Hugo Lilja – Sweden, Denmark | 2018 – 106 minutes

Aniara is the story of one of the many spaceships used for transporting Earth’s fleeing population to their new home-planet Mars. But just as the ship leaves the destroyed Earth, she collides with space junk and is thrown off her course. The passengers slowly realize that they’ll never be able to return.

Dachra by Abdelhamid Bouchnak – Tunisia | 2018 – 113 minutes

Set in modern-day Tunisia, a group of journalism students set out on a university assignment to solve the cold case of Mongia, a woman found mutilated 25 years ago and now imprisoned in an asylum, suspected of withchcraft. They are led to Dachra, an isolated compound and home to a clt with many dark secrets.

The mountains of Oaxaca harbor the remains of a ravaged and burnt shelter, once home to a psychoanalyst priest who used it to look after savage children, trying to re-integrate them into society. Through videotape diaries and interviews, the truth of what happened is shockingly revealed.

Set in the countryside of Cuba, a domineering father exerts a strong influence over his family. However, when he suddenly disappears, his 13-year-old daughter Lili is distraught. Attempting to bring him back, she uses a spiritual ritual and uncovers an uncomfortable truth.

The Art of Self-Defense by Riley Stearns – USA | 2019 – 104 minutes

A sheepish accountant is attacked at random on the street. He decides to enlist at a local dojo, led by a charismatic and mysterious Sensei, in an effort to learn how to defend himself. What he gets into is something more than bargained for.
