Summer International Film Festival – Opening Film 2026

Hope directed by Na Hong-jin will open the Summer International Film Festival – organized by the HKIFF CineFan – which will take place from August 19 – 31, 2026 at the Premiere Elements cinema in Hong Kong.

Hope by Na Hong-jin – South Korea | 2026 – 157 minutes

When a mysterious monster wreaks havoc in a rural town, its police force’s attempt to track it leads them down a long trail of blood and mayhem. Meanwhile, a pack of hunters navigate the surrounding woods to uncover the truth, only to find themselves becoming the monster’s prey. The most expensive Korean film ever made, Na Hong-jin’s sensational and relentlessly paced follow-up to The Wailing is a creature feature elevated to a sci-fi mind-bender of cosmic proportions. Opening with a breathtaking 45-minute chase and refusing to let up until its remarkable conclusion, Na’s extraordinarily ambitious thriller may have divided critics in Cannes, but it’s impossible to deny that this is top-notch entertainment by a mad genius and controlled cinematic chaos at its best.
