We present the Asian films that will be screened at the Fantasia International Film Festival, taking place in Montreal, Canada, from July 16 to August 2, 2026.
This year, the Fantasia International Film Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary with an impressive programme featuring a strong presence of Asian cinema. The lineup includes more than 100 films by Asian filmmakers. Audiences can look forward to Indonesian body horror with biting social commentary, cyberpunk Muay Thai madness from Thailand, and heartfelt Filipino animation, among many other highlights.
Some of the highlights are Yusuke Iwasaki’s “AnyMart”, a surreal horror-comedy that turns a mundane convenience store into a haunted house of corporate satire; Yuen Woo-ping’s “Blades of the Guardians”, an epic, star-studded wuxia blockbuster featuring legendary Hong Kong wirework; and Yeon Sang-ho’s “Colony”, a claustrophobic, high-octane sci-fi thriller about a hive-like viral outbreak. Joining them are Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “The Samurai and the Prisoner”, a dialogue-driven locked-room mystery set during a castle siege in feudal Japan, and “The Seoul Guardians” by Kim Jong-woo, Kim Shin-wan, and Cho Chul-young, a gripping, real-time political documentary capturing the dramatic hours of the 2024 South Korean martial law declaration.
