20 Short Films you shouldn’t miss at the 27th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Part 1)

These are twenty short films you shouldn’t miss at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) which will take place in cinemas and online from June 29 until July 9, 2023 in Bucheon, Korea.

A Long Alone by Yeo Eun-a – Korea | 2023 – 8 minutes | World Premiere

The record of discontinued time and place, from dying alone to discovery. One year period after a person’s solitary death is shown in time-lapse. Inside the house, there are traces of his fierce life, and the audience can guess his life by following the traces. The house stays at the time of his death. On the contrary, the exterior landscape constantly changes, giving a feeling of contrast to the house. A year later, his body is found, and the scene of his death is cleared by special cleaners. Car Camping by Jung Hae Sim – Korea | 2022 – 16 minutes | World Premiere

Youtuber Se-jin has become famous for her Camping in the car alone contents. When people questioned the veracity of her videos, she is trying to figure out to shoot new vlog – going camping with one of subscribers, Bu-mi who is herbig fan. Delivery Dancer’s Sphere by Kim Ayoung – Korea | 2022 – 25 minutes | Asian Premiere

Ernst Mo is a rider for the powerful courier service Delivery Dancer. Every day, she transports an endless stream of parcels, following algorithmically generated routes through a labyrinthine, technofuturist Seoul. Here, the optimization drives space, time and bodies to the riders’ limits. After she runs into an alternative version of herself, her reality slowly starts to crack. (BIFAN 2023)

Deposit by An E Seul – Korea | 2022 – 25 minutes | World Premiere

‘Yoon-il’ proves his unwavering love to ‘Hana’ by cutting off his ear, and sets out to keep cut ear safely stored. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they encounter a man who, like Yoon-il, has also cut off his ear. (BIFAN 2023)

English Tutor by Koo Jaho – Korea | 2023 – 10 minutes | Asian Premiere

A Korean university student takes on an unusual tutoring job and encounters a young child who refuses to write in English. As the tutor a;empts to get to the root of the child’s reluctance, she uncovers a shocking revela@on about the child and her mother. (BIFAN 2023)

Forest of Echos by Lim Yoo-ri – Korea | 2023 – 22 minutes | World Premiere

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived alone in a small village in the high mountains. And one day, her worst fears came true. So she runs away and decides to go into a forbidden forest to die. In the forest, Okyoen meets somebody- her friend who got married and moved away years ago. Okyeon soon realizes something was off with her friend. Because she was wearing the same wedding attire from the day she got married. in the midst of all the secrets being revealed, what choice will the little girl make? (BIFAN 2023)

Innermost by Caochong Maing – China | 2022 – 15 minutes | Korean Premiere

In a technologically advanced yet collapsed society, cyberpunk SF and traditional oriental martial arts converge. The story follows the emotional entanglement between a long-lost chivalrous couple and a person with regenerated organs starting from a fight for a mystic magic lyre. From the perspective of the capabilities of regeneration technologies, it prompts audiences to contemplate the amplification or dissolution of emotional value. (BIFAN 2023)

Last Order by Jo Hang-jin – Korea | 2023 – 11 minutes | Asian Premiere

A pizza guy goes on a late-night delivery to a suburban apartment. Despite long flights of stairs, room 1601 is nowhere to be found. Instead he is left with grim, mysterious illusions and traces. (BIFAN 2023)

MY HEART IS GOING TO EXPLODE! by Jung Inhyuk – Korea | 2023 – 20 minutes | World Premiere

After a love affair full of gaslighting comes to an end, Soojin is haunted by the green-lit girl she slept with in a drunken stupor the night before. Her body was glowing; she literally emitted green light. Soojin’s friends scold her for losing her mind, but suddenly a UFO appears in the sky of Seoul and starts attacking everyone. Will Soojin be able to find the green girl in the middle of hell? The latest alien-invading sci-fi action-romance blockbuster from Jung Inhyuk, who has created his own genre by mixing minority stories with B-grade humor and clichés. (BIFAN 2023)

NANI GA MIEH RU! by Jang Jae-woo – Korea | 2023 – 12 minutes | World Premiere

Sion, the leader of the occult club ‘sea of death (sahae),’ uses Japanese Sasori in every Circle One occult consciousness experiment. In the interim, Sion breaks the neck of Sasori’s cherished Kimono doll, causing Sasori to smile unknowingly. Members of the occult club became interested in the popular Japanese game ‘ NANIGA MIEH RU,’ which moves to an empty space. (BIFAN 2023)
