Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival – Asian Presence 2023

We take a look at the Asian films presented at the Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival which will take place from May 25 – June 4, 2023 in Toronto, Canada.

A Place of Our Own (Ek Jagah Apni) by Ektara Collective – India | 2023 – 68 minutes

Trans women Laila and Roshni are looking for housing after they are evicted from their rental. It soon becomes evident that their search for a home is also their ongoing search for a place in a society that wants to push them aside. As their search continues, we realise it transcends physical spaces and biological bonds, and as new friendships blossom, help arrives from unexpected places. A timely and essential film, A Place of Our Own was created by the Ektara Collective, an independent collective seeking to make films aesthetically located in their own realities and experiences. In the town of Pagadian, a gay teenager eagerly waits for a mature man to reveal his face after developing an anonymous sexual relationship with him online. (Inside Out 2023)


Will You Look At Me by Shuli Huang – China | 2022 – 20 minutes

A young Chinese filmmaker returns to his hometown and engages in an overdue conversation with his mother, leading them on a quest for acceptance and love. (Inside Out 2023)
