Dublin International Film Festival – Asian Presence 2023

We present the Asian films that will be screened at the Dublin International Film Festival which will take place from February 23 until March 4, 2023 in Dublin, Ireland.

– Feature Films –

Day After… (Anyadin…) by Kamar Ahmad Simon – Bangladesh | 2021 – 115 minutes

The steam whistle blows, the paddle starts rolling and the century-old boat starts from the bustling harbour of capital Dhaka to the remote coastal village of Bangladesh. The camera roams the crowded decks framing the politicians and the proletarians, privileged and the poorest-all entrapped in a never-ending conundrum. Meanwhile, the captain skillfully navigates his vessel along the busy, shallow. (DublinIFF 2023)

New Normal by Jung Bum-shik – Korea | 2022 – 112 minutes

Hyun-Jung, a woman living alone nervously watching the news. Seung-Jin, a middle schooler trying to raise his failing grades by doing volunteer work. Hyun-Su, a woman trying to find a friend of the opposite sex through a dating app. Hoon, a man who finds a mysterious letter with written instructions to find the woman who penned them. Gee-jin, an unemployed man with a one-sided crush on the stewardess next door. Yeon-jin, a musician and part-time worker at a convenience store who lives a crappy shitty life, dealing with rude customers daily. These six people’s lives intersect in unexpected and disturbing ways over the course of four days. (DublinIFF 2023)


Plan 75 by Chie Hayakawa – Japan | 2022 – 112 minutes

In a Japan of the near future, government program Plan 75 encourages senior citizens to be voluntarily euthanized to remedy a super-aged society. An elderly woman whose means of survival are vanishing, a pragmatic Plan 75 salesman, and a young Filipino laborer face choices of life and death. (DublinIFF 2023)

Will You Look At Me? by Shuli Huang – China | 2022 – 20 minutes

As a young Chinese filmmaker returns to his hometown in search for himself, a long due conversation with his mother drives the two of them into a quest for acceptance and love. (DublinIFF 2023)
