Three Asian short films were awarded at the PÖFF Shorts 2022

Bird in the Peninsula by Atsushi Wada, Persona by Sunjin Moon, and Epicenter by Heeyoon Hahm were awarded at the PÖFF Shorts – International Short Film and Animation Festival that took place from November 15 – 23, 2022 during the Black Nights Film Festival.

Bird in the Peninsula by Atsushi Wada – France, Japan | 2022 – 16 minutes

Children are dancing on the music under the supervision of their teacher. A young lady witnesses the scene and disrupts their rituals.

Jury Commentary: “An intriguing insight into the complications of puberty. A beautifully paced, surreal and humorous film.”

Best Student Short Animation – New Talents: Animation

Persona by Sunjin Moon – South Korea | 2022 – 7 minutes

The process of being encroached by the persona.

Jury Commentary: “A beautifully executed exploration of how young people negotiate their body image and the personality altering perceptions of today’s culture of toxic social media.”

Epicenter by Heeyoon Hahm – South Korea | 2022 – 10 minutes

Bukhansan Mountain grows in an earthquake in a normal daily life. Little by little, as fine cracks appear on the wall that divided the world of fantasy and reality, someone begins to notice the existence of an invisible world.

Jury Commentary: “There is such a beautiful aesthetic to this film – a peaceful ambient which draws you in into this drawn world. A perfect example of the beauty of simplicity.”
