We are accepting short films (under 40 minutes) from Asian filmmakers for our new Subtitle Translation Service. Ten selected projects will have their subtitles translated from English to Spanish free of charge. The deadline is November 4th, 2022.

About the call:
AsianFilmFestivals keeps innovating and developing ties with the filmmaking community in Asia. In 2023 we are planning to offer subtitle translation services. As a preparation for this new endeavor, we are calling Asian filmmakers and producers to submit their short films for a FREE translation of their subtitles (from English to Spanish). With this new service we would like to encourage filmmakers to send their films to Latin American and Spanish Film Festivals.

ELIGIBILITY
We only accept films from *Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Films should not exceed the 40-minutes mark (including opening and closing credits).

Films should have been produced after January 1st, 2021.

We accept all kind of shorts (fiction, documentary, animation, experimental) except VR projects.

We accept films that has been shown in Festivals, online platforms, OTTs, streaming services, etc. If your film has not been released in 2022 and you are planning to release it in 2023 you are welcome to submit it.

We only accept finished works. Please do not send Work-In-Progress projects.

Applicants MUST have their subtitles in English in .srt or .ass format with timecode.

Applicants must let us see the short film/s via a screener link (please provide passwords.)

If selected, applicants MUST let us download the film to work on the subtitle software. This is a must condition since we want to assure the subtitles are shown correctly on screen.

Applicants can submit more than one short film (separate submission forms must be filled for each application).

Application/s must be completed in English.

The entrant is responsible for all necessary copyright clearances for material used in their submitted works. AFF will not be held responsible for damage resulting from copyright infringement lawsuits from other parties, which are entirely the responsibility of the entrant.

DEADLINE
All applicants must complete and send the Submission Form no later than November 4th, 2022 (23:55 pm Argentina Time).
Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
Any submission received after the deadline will not be accepted.

HOW TO SUBMIT

2) Send the Submission Form to asianfilmfestivals@hotmail.com along with 2 stills from the film in HD quality. (PR Material apart from these files is accepted).

SELECTED PROJECTS
We will publish on our website the list of selected projects on November 7th, 2022.

We will also send emails to those selected projects.

MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED ONCE YOU ARE SELECTED
Once selected for the service you must send an email to asianfilmfestivals@hotmail.com the following materials:
1) Link to download the film.
2) Subtitles in English in .srt or .ass format (with timecodes).

These materials MUST be delivered by November 14th, 2022. If we don’t receive the materials by that date, we will select another film.

BENEFITS FOR SELECTED PROJECTS
Ten (10) shot films will receive their subtitles translated from English to Spanish for FREE in .srt or .ass format to be used in festivals and other online platforms.

AFF assures maintain constant communication and organize online meeting/s (upon request) with the selected projects to explain certain cultural changes in the subtitles.

Selected projects accept not to modify the subtitles delivered and let us credit AFF in the final credits of your film.

LEGAL
All the information shared with AsianFilmFestivals including the Submission Form, Still Images, Links to Screeners (including passwords), and other material will not be shared with people outside AFF or third parties. AFF also agrees to take all steps reasonably necessary to protect the material, and to prevent it from becoming known or available to the public or failing into the possession of unauthorized persons. A Non-Disclosure Agreement can be signed between the parties upon request.

DELIVERY OF SUBTITLES
We intend to delivery all the subtitles by December 19th, 2022 (or sooner). Selected films will receive the subtitle file/s on the same day.
