26th Kaohsiung Film Festival – Call for Entry 2026

The Kaohsiung Film Festival (Taiwan) is accepting XR Projects and Shorts films until June 10, 2026.

About the festival:
Kaohsiung Film Festival International Short Film Competition (Taiwan) is dedicated to discovering short films with creative styles and unique perspectives, to encourage new filmmaking talents and also to stimulate cultural exchanges.

Eligibility for XR Projects:
– Only works completed between January 1st 2025 and June 31st 2026 (the registration deadline) are eligible for submission.
– The festival encourages works in which innovative narratives and immersive technologies are used in conjunction to enrich each other and the overall experience.
– Technologies applied (include but are not limited to): Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), VR360, multimedia devices and other pre- existing or innovative technologies. The work must include a viewing experience using a XR headset.
– There is no restriction on premiere status, however the festival prefers World, International or Asian Premiere in that other.
– Entries must provide English subtitles or English-dubbed versions of their project to register for the competition.
– Submissions must be done via FilmFreeway and then enter their information on a Google Form. Failure to fill the Google Form will result in an invalid submission.

Eligibility for International and Taiwan Sections:
– To be eligible for the Asian New Wave Award (International Films), the film should be directed by Asian nationality holders or produced mainly in Asian countries.
– To be eligible for the Taiwan Section works should be directed by Taiwan nationality holders or produced in Taiwan.
– To be eligible for the Taiwan Student Award, the film should be completed while the director is enrolled in school.
– To be eligible for Children’s Jury Award, the film should be suitable for children aged 9–12.
– Films must have been completed after June 1, 2025.
– Works-in-progress will not be accepted.
– The festival accepts any type of film (fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, etc.).
– Films should be under 25 minutes, including all credits.
– Films already submitted to previous editions are not accepted, even in a new version or title.
– No premiere status is required.
– Films cannot be submitted to more than one section. Taiwanese productions can only be submitted to Taiwan Section. International co-productions with Taiwan can be applied to either International Section or Taiwan Section depending on the participants’ decision.
– Films should be submitted at the ShortFilmDepot ONLY.
– Submission Fee: FREE (Submission platform may charge a fee)
