33rd Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival – Opening Films

“The Swimmer” by Adam Kalderon, and “Fragrance of the First Flower” by Angel Teng will open the Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, which will take place from September 17 – October 1, 2022.

The Swimmer by Adam Kalderon – Israel | 2021 – 85 minutes

Erez is a gifted swimmer and finds himself pitted against Nevo at an elite summer training camp, where the winner gets a ticket to the Olympics. The beautiful and talented Nevo awakens subconscious desires in Erez, but their coach forbids friendships between competitors. Warned to stay from Nevo, Erez is torn between his desire to win a medal and winning Nevo’s heart. (HKLGFF 2022)


Fragrance of the First Flower by Angel Teng – Taiwan | 2021 – 120 minutes

Yi-min lives alone with her son, as her husband works away from home. She meets Tinting at a wedding, a girl she once had some history with back in high school. Meeting Tingting again reignites something in her, the possibility of escaping her dull married life. Now that Taiwan has legalised same-sex marriage, can Yi-min find the courage to admit her feelings? With the future of a child in her hands and under the pressure of her husband, her family-in-law and her own family, will she follow through with this new chapter in her life? (HKLGFF 2022)
