46th Hong Kong International Film Festival – Opening Films

Where the Wind Blows by Philip Yung, and Warriors of Future by Ng Yuen-fai will open the 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival which will take place from August 15 -31, 2022.

Where the Wind Blows by Philip Yung – Hong Kong | 2022 – 144 minutes

Philip Yung’s long-awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed Port of Call is an ambitious, genre-bending epic loosely based on the rise and fall of the notorious “Four Great Sergeants” in 1960s Hong Kong. The film centres on the friendship and rivalry between two resourceful police detectives who forge dangerous alliances with organised crime. This first onscreen pairing of superstars Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung Chiu-wai also boasts a scenestealing performance from Hong Kong Cinema icon Michael Hui. (HKIFF 2022)

Warriors of Future by Ng Yuen-fai – Hong Kong | 2022 – 99 minutes

Proclaiming to be Hong Kong’s first mega-budget sci-fi blockbuster, Warriors of Future more than delivers with its cutting-edge visual effects and awe-inspiring vision. Set in a barren future landscape, this epic action thriller sparks into life as a crashed meteor brings with it “Pandora”, an alien vine that can purify the polluted Earth, by destroying everything in its path. Led by Louis Koo, who also serves as producer, an armoured military squad set out to modify Pandora’s genetic code becomes humanity’s last hope for survival. (HKIFF 2022
