We present the Asian films that will be screened at the Locarno Film Festival, which will take place from August 3 – 13, 2022.

Concorso Internazionale

**Ariyippu** (Declaration) by Mahesh Narayanan – India | 2022 – 107 minutes

Hareesh and Reshmi are an immigrant couple from Kerala working in a medical gloves factory near Delhi. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, when an old video resurfaces among the factory workers, it opens up a Pandora’s box that threatens the couple’s jobs and marriage. As desperation and hostility mounts, they confront their own needs and desires while torn between a life of conscience and compromise. (Locarno 2022)

**Stone Turtle** by Ming Jin Woo – Malaysia, Indonesia | 2022 – 91 minutes

Zahara, a stateless refugee, lives on a small remote island in Malaysia, where she makes a living selling turtle eggs. One day, Samad, claiming to be a university researcher, visits the island, wanting to employ Zahara to show him around. As the day goes on, Zahara and Samad become entangled in a dangerous dance of duplicity and deception. (Locarno 2022)

**Arnon pen nakrian tuayang** (Arnold is a Model Student) by Sorayos Prapapan – Thailand, Singapore, France, Netherlands, Philippines | 2022 – 83 minutes

Arnold is a clever student who has won many academic awards. One day, he meets Bee who has an underground business of helping students to cheat their exams. Bee asks Arnold to join his cheating ring and offers him a lot of money. While Arnold is considering working with Bee, at his school, many students are not happy with the school’s disrespect of their freedom and they organize a big protest. (Locarno 2022)

To please his parents, Dika hides his true self by dancing it out. (Locarno 2022)

**Mini-mini-pokke no okina niwa de** (In the Big Yard Inside the Teeny-Weeny Pocket) by Yuki Yoko – Japan | 2022 – 6 minutes

When it shrinks, it expands. It floats and it sinks. It separates but connects. When I think I’m watching them, they’re actually watching me. A charming animation rhyme that weaves together many days of observing, recording, and experimenting. (Locarno 2022)

**Tiger Stabs Tiger** by Shen Jie – China | 2022 – 22 minutes

Irreversible penetrations, repeated collisions, intense touches and adhesions… Bring both life and death. (Locarno 2022)

Piazza Grande

**Printed Rainbow** by Gitanjali Rao – India | 2006 – 15 minutes

An old woman and her cat enter into their dream world through her matchbox collection. A tale of urban loneliness told through the graphic styles of matchbox art. (Locarno 2022)

**Bombay Rose** by Gitanjali Rao – India, France, UK, Qatar | 2019 – 97 minutes
