51st Kyiv Molodist International Film Festival – Asian Presence

These are the Asian films that will be screened during the 51st Kyiv Molodist International Film Festival which will take place from May 28 until June 5 (2022) in cinemas and online.

International Competition

**Filipiñana** by Rafael Manuel – Philippines, UK | 2020 – 24 minutes

The self-contained cosmos of the golf course reflects societal structures. Although the new “tee girl” Isabel still has to learn the rules, she’s already looking for loopholes to subvert the system. (Molodist 2022)

**A Lucid Dream** by Li Yue – China | 2020 – 29 minutes

Memory eats into his dream. With the disappearance of that batch of wood which comes from the Southwest border, Li Guang, who is at the age of knowing destiny, realizes that this bizarre and motley reality is only built of the extension of memories. (Molodist 2022)

**The Cloud is Still Three** by Michey Lai – UK, Malaysia | 2020 – 19 minutes

A young woman grapples with clashing religious beliefs as she prays for her terminally ill grandfather. (Molodist 2022)

**Girl in the Water** by Shi-rou Huang – Taiwan | 2020 – 8 minutes

Contemplation of torn walls and scars reminds the heroine of the ups and downs of love. The film depicts femininity and female internal time-consciousness through the convalescence of a woman’s broken heart. (Molodist 2022)

Documentary Competition

**Writing with Fire** by Rintu Thomas Sushmit Ghosh – India | 2021 – 93 minutes

In a cluttered news landscape dominated by men emerges India’s only newspaper run by low caste women. Armed with smartphones, Chief Reporter Meera and her journalists break traditions, redefining what it means to be powerful. (Molodist 2022)
