These are the winners of the Tokyo Anime Award Festival which took place from March 11 – 14, 2022.

My Sunny Maad by Michaela Pavlátová – Czech Republic, France, Slovakia | 2021 – 81 minutes

When Herra, a young Czech woman, falls in love with Nazir, an Afghan, she has no idea what kind of life awaits her in post-Taliban Afghanistan, nor of the family she is about to integrate into. Bob Spit – We Do Not Like People by Cesar Cabral – Brazil | 2021 – 90 minutes

Bob Spit is an old punk trying to escape from a post-apocalyptic desert that is actually a purgatory inside the mind of his creator, Angeli, a cartoonist going through a creative crisis.

Souvenir Souvenir by Bastien Dubois – France | 2020 – 15 minutes

For ten years I pretended I wanted to get my grandfather to share his memories of the Algerian War. Today, I’m not sure I want to hear what he has to say, or whether I want to make this film at all. (UniFrance)

Paddy by Zhou Haoran – China | 2020 – 15 minutes

Is there always an answer up there? To find his favorite toy, the little scarecrow started the adventure. Along the way, everything is strange to him. Lost paradise, immigration tide, assembly line, and parade…He kept asking the world the same questions, but there was no answer. Finally, the toy returned to him, but something different had taken place in him.

HIDE AND SEEK by Curie Baek – Japan | 2021 – 4 minutes

I feel strange at home the night of the murder of a family. Apparently not alone. On the night of a family murder, the woman feels a strange sign inside the house. Guess she’s not alone. (TAAF 2022)

Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2022(TAAF2022) calls for feature and short animated films with high potential and strong messages from all over the world. Our aim is to screen high-quality animated films superior in originality, provide opportunities to inspire audience as well as creators, cultivate new talents, and contribute in the development and promotion of animation cultures and industry.
