72nd Berlin International Film Festival – Call for Entry 2022

Dear Asian filmmakers, the Berlin International Film Festival is accepting feature films until November 3rd; short films until November 17th, and Series until November 24th, 2021.

About the festival:
The Berlin International Film Festival (hereafter referred to as the “Berlinale”) is organised by the Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH (the Federal Organisation for Cultural Events in Berlin). The Berlinale is a major public cultural event. Each year, it typically sells over 330,000 tickets and comprises around 350 films, making it a unique event for interaction with a film-loving public. With the participation of around 20,000 professional visitors from over 100 countries, including more than 3,800 journalists, it is one of the international film industry’s most important events.

General Rules:
– The festival accepts fiction films, documentary forms, animation as well as experimental films but no industry films or commercials.
– Only films completed within the 12 months prior to the start of the festival may be registered.
– World Premieres are given priority, however, the sections have different requirements.
– The Competition Section and the Encounter Section accepts feature films (over 60 minutes) that should be International Premieres (German productions & co-productions have to be world premieres).
– The Berlinale Shorts section accepts films under 30 minutes that should be International Premieres (German productions & co-productions have to be world premieres).
– The Panorama Section and Forum Section accepts films over 60 minutes that should be European Premiere.
– The Generation Section accepts short films (under 20 minutes) and feature films (over 60 minutes) that should be European Premiere.
– The Perspektive Deutshces Kino Section accepts short films under 30 minutes that should be German Premiere and no theatrical release prior to the festival.
– The Berlinale Series accepts series (must have at least 4 episodes) and should be World or International Premiere.
– The Berlinale Classics Section accepts feature films (over 60 minutes) that should be World or International Premiere.
– Films which have been submitted and viewed for previous editions of the Berlinale may not be registered again.
– Documentary forms can be submitted to all sections.
– Every submitter will receive a written notification about the result of the selection screening.
– Submitters must fill the online form at the Berlinale’s website (see link below).
– One entry form must be filled out for each film.
– Accepted formats for selection: File upload or DCP.
– Accepted formats for festival presentation: DCP or QuickTime ProRes. 35 mm and other formats only upon request.
Submission Fees:
$ 175 Euros for feature films and series
$ 75 Euros for short films
Deadlines:
November 3rd, 2021 for Feature Films
November 17th, 2021 for Short films
November 24th, 2021 for Series
