Winners of the Kineko International Children’s Film Festival 2016


We present the winners of the Kineko International Children’s Film Festival that took place from November 2nd – 6th, in Tokyo, Japan.

Grand Prix – Feature Film

A young girl’s father goes bankrupt. The girl’s family loses their houses and they don’t have a place to live. One day, the girl sees a flyer offering a reward of $500 for a missing dog. The young girl then sets out to “borrow” dogs from wealthy families to obtain reward money.


Grand Prix – Short Film

lila2Lila by Carlos Lascano – Spain, Argentina | 2014 – 10 min.

Lila is a dreamy girl who can’t resign to accept reality as flat as she perceives it, hence she uses her imagination and her skills to modify it.

chieri-and-cherryChieri and Cherry by Makoto Nakamura – Japan | 2015 – 54 min

Chieri is a 6th grade elementary school girl. Her father died when she was little, so she lives with just her mother. The only friend of Chieri had been a stuffed doll Cherry which she found on a storehouse at the time of her father’s funeral. In Chieri’s world of fantasy, Cherry had talked and played with, and adviced and protected her in place of her father. Chieri visits her grandmother’s house for a first time in a while to attend her father’s remembrance ceremony. There, she finds a stray dog being about to give birth to puppies. But a crow and strange monster come trying to get the pups. Can Chieri and Cherry save their lives?

One evening, a young boy walks to a village festival with friends. They stop at a shop so he can buy new clogs. An old woman appears and tells him that whoever buys clogs at night will turn into a fox. What if…?
