We take a look at the new venues and events presented for the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).
This year the TIFF decided to add new venues to its festival. Along with the Roppongi Hillls Cinema, the EX Theater Roppongi (1-2-9 Nishiazabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo) will join the festival as the main theater. This new venue will be the place where the Opening and Closing ceremony will take place and most of the Competition Section will be screen at this cinema.
During the festival the Open-Air Cinema will take place at the Roppongi Hills Arena (6-9-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo), under the moniker TIFF Cinema Arena. There will be also an open-air screening, Tower Light Cinema, entitled “Won’t you come talk about cinema?” aiming to encourage film-loving participants to kickstart discussions on cinema schedule for October 16th also at the Roppongi Hills Arena with free entrance fee.
The TIFF continues to highlight Japanese animation, on this opportunity there will be a special event called “TIFF Ani!!” which will feature the most “happening” phenomenon of them all in today’s Japanimation sphere: “anison” or anime music. This one-day anime event will take place on October 31th (Halloween) at the Tokyo International Forum (3-5-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and will showcase a wide range of Japanese animation.
Information about the different films presented for each event will be announce as the festival comes near so please be patient. We will like to rind readers that the TIFF will be held on October 25th – November 3rd.
