Chinatown Cha-Cha directed by Luka Yang Yuanyuan will open the Mulan International Film Festival which will take place from August 8 – 17, 2025 in Toronto, Canada.

Chinatown Cha-Cha by Luka Yang Yuanyuan – China | 2024 – 85 minutes | Canadian Premiere

A group of Chinese American dancers in their seventies to nineties, who witnessed the golden age of San Francisco Chinatown first-hand, once again embark on a tour from the United States, Cuba, to China finally, to write a moving piece of music that brings together the Chinese at home and abroad.

About the director:
Luka YANG Yuanyuan (b. 1989, Beijing) is a visual artist and filmmaker working across documentary film, photography, installation, and performance. Through weaving documentary and archival materials, she explores themes of identity, migration, and memory, challenging conventional historical narratives and amplifying overlooked voices. Chinatown Cha-Cha is her debut feature documentary.
