The Cinema at Sea – Okinawa Pan-Pacific International Film Festival (Japan) is accepting films until November 15, 2024.

About the festival:
Under the concept of “Cinema at Sea,” this festival is dedicated to discovering and promoting outstanding films that foster deeper intercultural understanding among different nations, ethnicities, and individuals. Their goal is for Okinawa to become a new center of international cultural exchange within the Pan-Pacific region.

This film festival will focus on the theme of “ocean” and will feature works set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. It will lead audiences to discover fantastic films that have been nurtured by this vast sea, including those about the decline of traditional culture, the customs of tribal cultures, and observations on geopolitics.

Through the Pacific Film Competition and the Pacific Short Film Competition, they aim to offer our audience different perspectives and invite them to examine the past, present, and future of the Pacific.

Eligibility:
– The festival accepts films of any genre and type, including live-action drama, animation, documentary, etc.
– The festival accepts short films under 20 minutes for the “Pacific Short Film Competition”, and feature films over 60 minutes for the “Pacific Film Competition”.
– Films must be produced in the Pan-Pacific Region¹. A film whose production company is not based in the countries and regions listed below but which has been shot in the Pan-Pacific region is also eligible.
– Work-in-progress films are not eligible.
– If the language is not Japanese or English, please provide English subtitles. In such cases, the cost of subtitling, etc., in such cases shall be borne by the applicant.
– Submissions must be made via FilmFreeway.
– Films must be completed after September 1, 2023.
– The festival will prioritize World Premieres.
– Submission Fees:
* Short Films – $ 20 USD
* Feature Films – $ 70 USD
– Deadline: November 15, 2024
– Notification Date: December 22, 2024
