Okuribi by Hiromu Yamawaki – Canada | 2023 – 7 minutes
Mei lives with her single father, Tatsuya. They just found out that their long-awaited trip to Japan was cancelled, which creates conflict between them. However, a traditional Japanese custom, Okuribi, gives Mei an opportunity to reflect on her actions and reconcile with her father. (VAFF 2023)

Remember Our Sister by Jo Hayoung – Korea | 2022 – 28 minutes
Set in 1980s South Korea, Hong, along with her sister, work in a base village, built only for the entertainment of the U.S. soldiers. Hong and her sister enjoy carefree days until Hong comes to think that it is strange, little by little. It is based on a true story. (VAFF 2023)

Sunflower Girl by Holly M. Kaplan – USA | 2023 – 14 minutes
Rosie, a 13-year-old Chinese-American girl, embarks on a skateboarding escapade through the streets of New York with her crush and best friend—at the cost of abandoning her little sister and delivering a forgotten lunchbox. (VAFF 2023)

The Stranger by Tin Pak Lau – Canada | 2023 – 17 minutes
The Stranger” begins with Jacky, who wakes up unable to recognize her boyfriend, Ray, who she always relied on for a sense of safety. She tries to overcome his new appearance but when more changes are introduced, will she still be able to love and accept him for who he is? (VAFF 2023)

With millions of streams under her belt, singer Tiffany Day embarks on her very first North American headline tour. In ”You Ask Too Much,” a near-deaf 94-year-old Sikh woman seeking comfort in her final days is unexpectedly moved from her son”s home to her daughter”s, causing her to confront the distance her care creates within the family. Only after she falls one night does the family come back together. (VAFF 2023)

Young People, Old People & Nothing in Between by Parida Tantiwasadakran – USA | 2022 – 20 minutes
7-year-old Juice has one mission this year: to help Grandma Lovely retain as many memories as possible in order to halt the onset of her early dementia. (VAFF 2023)

Your Child by Sunyoung Hong – Korea | 2022 – 27 minutes
A grieving father attends his late son’s classes to find out what led him to take his own life. He realizes that the adults in his son”s life, including himself and his teacher, turned a blind eye to his suffering. Through a process of uncovering the past, the adults are forced to face their guilt. (VAFF 2023)

You’re Happy, it’s Okay by Laura Low – Malaysia | 2023 – 19 minutes
Emily is hopeless at online dating. While she contemplates her singledom, she cares for her wheelchair-bound aunt, Ah Lan, who is also single. Somehow, Emily shares her dating predicament with her aunt. While it might be strange coming from one single lady to another, Ah Lan offers her dating advice. Unexpectedly, Ah Lan also reveals a secret to Emily. (VAFF 2023)
