
These are ten short films you shouldn’t miss at the Women Make Waves International Film Festival which will take place from October 12 – 22, 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.

30 Days by Liu Yu-Hsuan – Taiwan | 2023 – 23 minutes
Szu-Ting notices a lump in her chest. She suspects its breast cancer. Facing her fears alone, Szu-Ting tries reaching out to her parents for help, but fails again and again. How will Szu-Ting make it through the last 30 days of her life? (WMW 2023)

In the Dry Stream by Kang Jihyo – Korea | 2022 – 26 minutes
In the depth of a dry valley, there are two boys named Yu-bin and Geon, who are each other’s special friends. The dry stream serves as the best hideout and playground for them, but nobody seems to understand. However, with the rapid increase of construction, the forest is gradually disappearing. (WMW 2023)

My Dear Son by Lilian Wing-Yan Fu – Hong Kong | 2022 – 9 minutes
In a city under capitalism, Rose unexpectedly gives birth to a cat son. She struggles to love him and tries her best to change him, even if it means changing his true nature. However, it accidentally reminds her something about herself that she had forgotten a long time ago. (WMW 2023)

Set Sail by Lee Jo-Ti – Taiwan | 2023 – 8 minutes
At Grandpa’s funeral, the granddaughter is overwhelmed by her memories of the old days with Grandpa. From her viewpoint, a glimpse is taken into the past when a young man went to Taipei struggling for a living under the changes in the early era in Taiwan. (WMW 2023)

Sister by Meryl Wu – Taiwan | 2023 – 20 minutes
XiaoJie desires everything her sister has a team to jump rope with, new shoes, a group of cool friends and her parents’ attention. She stares back at her feet, and the only way to keep up with her sister is to practice like no one else. (WMW 2023)

Summer Rain by Shao Lin – Taiwan | 2022 – 15 minutes
There has been no water in the house for days, and the reason may be the leak in the water tank on the roof. This adds another thing to the siblings to-do list today. Other than their constant bickering, it seems like their relationship might be tighter than one can imagine during the rain. (WMW 2023)

The Egret River by Liu Wan-Ling – Taiwan | 2022 – 20 minutes
Among the tall buildings of the city, a lonely guard hides a beautiful field that no one knows and meets an egret there, but the expansion of the city never stops. One day, the field is destroyed and the egret escapes without a trace. He begins to see mysterious illusions. (WMW 2023)

The Eyeball Person by Yuri Muraoka – Japan | 2023 – 12 minutes
After graduating from Image Forum Institute of the Moving Image, MURAOKA continues creating moving images and photographic works of “self-portraiture,” including Transparent, the world is. and Transparent, I am. (WMW 2023)

The Island of Us by Yu Yu – Taiwan | 2022 – 19 minutes
Seed who can’t get under the sun and the shadow who needs light to exist, they are the meaning of life for each other. Seed and the shadow go on a journey in this strange world to find a way of living with each other. (WMW 2023)

You Will See by Kathleen Bu – Singapore | 2022 – 15 minutes
A young photographer, desperately looking for the perfect moment, falls prey to a supernatural camera.Through a blend of intrigue and violence, You Will See depicts the desire to capture perfect work of art with a camera. (WMW 2023)
