These are twenty short films you shouldn’t miss at the Indie-AniFest – Seoul Independent Animation Festival which will take place from September 14 – 19, 2023 in Seoul, Korea.

A Long Alone by Yeo Eun-a – Korea | 2023 – 8 minutes
The record of discontinued time and place, from dying alone to discovery. One year period after a person’s solitary death is shown in time-lapse. Inside the house, there are traces of his fierce life, and the audience can guess his life by following the traces. The house stays at the time of his death. On the contrary, the exterior landscape constantly changes, giving a feeling of contrast to the house. A year later, his body is found, and the scene of his death is cleared by special cleaners. A Night With Moosina by Shiu-Cheng Tsai – Taiwan | 2022 – 26 minutes
On a full moon night, a ten-year-old girl in a remote village is lured by Moosina into a cave in the mountains, where she discovers the secret about why the mountain demon always plays dirty tricks on children. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

BATTERY MOMMY by Jeon Seungbae – Korea | 2023 – 9 minutes
Battery Mommy works at various stuffs such as soap bubble guns, cameras, and thermometers in the nursery. During the children’s nap time of one winter day, Battery Mommy finds out the Christmas tree in the nursery is on fire. At the moment, she urgently runs to the fire alarm to safely rescue the sleeping children… (Indie-AniFest 2023)

Boundary by SO Hahyun – Korea | 2023 – 5 minutes

Braided by Chenxi Zhang – China, USA | 2023 – 6 minutes
Mom always braided my hair so tautly that it carved a distinct path atop my head. But one day, she cut off my braids. Along the path, I touched our unbreakable inner attachment, and the journey of female growth we were both unprepared to face. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

Bud by Bang Jiwoo – Korea | 2023 – 7 minutes
Seohee, who was working as a courier, finds Gyeoul hiding in a box in the delivery cargo compartment. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

Cat in the Closet by NAM Soohyun – Korea | 2023 – 6 minutes
A woman who turns a blind eye to her depression and tries to escape decides to coexist with it. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

Coma by CHANG Hyung-yun – Korea | 2022 – 13 minutes
Lee Joongsik, a 45-year-old middle-aged man, wakes up in a police station. He is suspected of pushing the woman beside him into the road. Joongsik doesn’t know who he is or how he ended up in the police station. But he learns that someone is coming to kill him. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

From Yeondoo by LEE Sohui, JANG Minjin, BAE Minsol, AN Hyeonjin – Korea | 2023 – 9 minutes
Sisters Yeonghee and Yeongeun visit their grandmother’s house in the countryside on a summer break. At their grandmother’s house, the sisters meet the enormous frog Yeondoo that walks on its two feet. Yeonghee distances herself from Yeondoo because everything about it including its appearance and behavior seems mysterious at first. (Indie-AniFest 2023)

Grief Comes in Waves by LIM Jimin – Korea | 2022 – 4 minutes
I try to take small and fragile leaves one by one and put them in my favorite notebook, but the leaves turn into paper airplanes and fly away. The paper planes disappeared and became three birds which flew away. I lured and caught the flying birds with my hand, but in the end they transformed into luminescent light and departed. The light descended upon the sea and disappeared as a glittering pearl. (Indie-AniFest 2023)
