63rd Zlín Film Festival – Asian Presence 2023 (Shorts)

We take a look at the Asian short films that will be screened at the Zlín Film Festival – International Film Festival for Children and Youth, which will take place from June 1 – 7, 2023 in Zlin, Czech Republic.

**Family Toast** by Kim Junhyung – Korea | 2022 – 14 minutes*

A mother finds a cigarette in her daughter’s bag. When her father returns home from work, he begins to suspect that a cigarette is not just a cigarette. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Fish out of Water** by Nonisha Negi – India | 2023 – 3 minutes*

No one feels comfortable at the dentist’s. Especially when it comes to pulling out a few teeth… (ZlinFF 2023)

**Go Fishboy** by Denise Cirone, Zhen Tian, Lan Zhou, Andrey Kolesov, Sebastian Doringer – France | 2022 – 6 minutes*

A boy who spends a lot of time with his father at a fish market and sushi restaurant eventually begins to feel like a fish himself. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Katvoman** by Hadi Sheibani – Iran, India | 2022 – 8 minutes*

Mom looks bold and confident in a costume and mask of a cat woman. But under the mask is actually an unpleasant secret. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Kiss All Summer Goodbye** by Tiange Xiang – China | 2023 – 15 minutes*

A young girl realizes that it is not necessary to have a boy to make her feel like a woman. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Loose Threads** by Chayanid Siripaiboolpong, Jessieca Junesha – Singapore | 2022 – 2 minutes*

Memories are like fine threads that touch the tips of your fingers and slip through them as quickly as the memories of loved ones. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Meal On The Plate** by Chenglin Xie – China, USA | 2021 – 7 minutes*

It’s said that you are what you eat. In a world where people start to look like the thing they eat the most of, you can take this quite literally. (ZlinFF 2023)

**Meet Again** by Ap-sol Kang, Yoorim Lee – Korea | 2023 – 5 minutes*

Hanbyul runs away from home on her fourteenth birthday because she is angry at her mom who does not even send a congratulatory text message. (ZlinFF 2023)

**My Grandmother Is an Egg** by Wu-Ching Chang – Taiwan, UK | 2021 – 8 minutes*

A look at women’s issues and their oppression in the struggle for freedom. Based on interviews with a grandmother, it reflects the historical context of Taiwan. (ZlinFF 2023)

A Vietnamese mother, Linh, lives with her son in America. When her father visits, she has to cook Vietnamese food. Linh confronts the past she’s left behind. (ZlinFF 2023)
