Shanghai Daughter directed by Agnis Shen Zhongmin will open the East Asia Film Festival Ireland, which will take place from March 19 – 22, 2026 at the IFI Dublin. Then the festival will tour from March 24 – 26, 2026 in Triskel (Cork) and Eye Cinema (Galway).

Shanghai Daughter by Agnis Shen Zhongmin – China | 2026 – 94 minutes

Agnis Shen Zhongmin’s lyrical debut follows Ming, a Shanghai woman who journeys to Xishuangbanna’s rubber plantation where her late father was sent during the Cultural Revolution. The old production house faces demolition to make way for a mining company and modern agricultural projects. Blending fiction, ethnography and travelogue, this hybrid moving film immerses us in family history and China’s vanishing traditions play out against the phenomenal landscapes of southwestern China, where flora and fauna become characters of their own. (EAFFI 2026)
