Dear Asian filmmakers, the Durban International Film Festival (South Africa) is accepting short films until February 27, 2026.

About the festival:
he Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, is widely regarded as a leading film festival in Africa. Founded in 1979 by Teddy and Ros Sarkin, it is the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa, presenting over 100 screenings, most of which are premieres in this region. The festival also offers workshops, seminars and outreach activities that include screenings in township areas where cinemas do not exist. DIFF offers an opportunity for filmmakers to expand their networks, by attracting local and international stakeholders and is a gateway to global cinematic gems that will enrich South African audience experiences.

Eligibility (International Films):
– The festival accepts short films (under 60 minutes).
– The festival accepts both fiction and documentaries.
– Films must have been produced after January 1, 2025.
– Films must be South Africa premiere.
– Should your film be selected, the festival requires a DCP for the exhibition.
– Films where the language is not English, must have English subtitles.
– Films submitted and declined for the previous edition will not be considered for the 46th edition.
– Submissions must be done via FilmFreeway.
– Submission Fees and Deadlines:
* Until January 9, 2026 – $ 17 USD
* From January 10, 2026  until February 27, 2026 – $ 22 USD
– Notification Date: May 1, 2026
