29th Vancouver Asian Film Festival – Opening Film 2025

Rosemead directed by Eric Lin and Retake directed by Eisuke Ohga will open the Vancouver Asian Film Festival which will take place from November 6 – 16, 2025 in Vancouver, Canada.

In a race against time, an ailing woman is stricken by the discovery of her teenage son’s violent obsessions and must go to great lengths to protect him, and possibly others, in this portrait of a Chinese American family. Inspired by true events.

About the director:
Eric Lin’s short film MUSIC PALACE screened at Telluride and New Directors/New Films and was Student Academy Award finalist. As a cinematographer, he shot 20 feature films, including I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR, HOUSE OF SPOILS, THE SOUND OF SILENCE, HEARTS BEAT LOUD, I SMILE BACK, and THE EXPLODING GIRL. He has an MFA in Film from NYU.

Retake by Eisuke Ohga – Japan | 2024 – 19 minutes

A broken astronaut steps onto a surreal film set, where the line between cinema and memory blurs, and his greatest failure demands a retake.

About the director:
After graduating from USC School of Cinematic Arts, joined Sony Pictures Entertainment in Los Angeles, then moved to Sony PCL in Tokyo. As a Virtual Production Producer, bridges cutting-edge visual technology with creativity, contributing to commercials, films, and TV series while also directing and focusing on storytelling through innovative technologies.
