
Ninavau directed by Bebbra Mailin will open the Malaysia International Film Festival which will take place from July 19 – 27, 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ninavau, a Kadazan based in West Malaysia, returns home to East Malaysia, Sabah for her sister’s wedding. Her family, deeply rooted in tradition and community values, sees her as a source of pride and a symbol of continuity. However, Ninavau carries with her a personal transformation that she has yet to share. (MIFFEST 2025)
About the director:
Bebbra Mailin, born and raised in Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia -Sabah, holds a Master’s Degree in Communication (Screen Studies) from the University of Science Malaysia (USM). She has made a mark in the film industry with award-winning short films like “EYE LOVE” (Best Film at Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival 2011) and “LANGAD DI ODU” (Best Film at Borneo Eco Film Festival 2012). Her documentary “RAPUH” was screened in Japan in 2016. Bebbra’s short film “NINAVAU” won Best Short Film at MIFFEST 2019.In 2021, she produced “PREBET SAPU”, Malaysia’s entry for the Oscars 2022. “NINAVAU” is her debut feature film.
