17th International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala – Call for Entry 2025

The International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (India) is accepting documentaries (short and feature) and short films until May 5, 2025.

About the festival:
The International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala will be held in the capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram during the month of July. The festival is organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala as part of its endeavour to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement. Increasing accessibility and affordability of mediatechnology has led to a boom in the production and scope of films.

Sections:
– National Competition
* Long Documentaries (over 40 minutes)
* Short Documentaries (under 40 minutes)
* Short Fictions (under 60 minutes)

Campus Films (students shorts from Education Institutions above Higher Secondary level based in Kerala | Fiction or Documentary under 20 minutes)

– National and International Non-Competition/ Focus Sections
* International Fiction and Non-Fiction (under 60 minutes)
* Focus Long Documentary (over 40 minutes)
* Focus Short Documentary (under 40 minutes)
* Focus Short Fiction (under 60 minutes)
* Music Video (under 10 minutes)
* Animation Film (under 30 minutes)

– Malayalam Non-Competition Section
* Long Documentary (over 40 minutes)
* Short Documentary (under 40 minutes)
* Short Fiction (under 60 minutes)

Eligibility:
– The festival accepts documentaries (short and feature), and short narrative films.
– Films must have been completed between May 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025.
– The festival will give priority to films with Kerala Premiere.
– All submitted films must carry English subtitles.
– Once a film confirms selection it cannot be withdrawn from the programme.
– Please note that only downloadable online screener will be accepted as preview material.
– The festival doesn’t accept Work-In-Progress films.
– Submissions must be done via Eventival.
Submission Fees:
* Feature Documentaries – Rs 1000 per entry
* Short Documentaries – Rs 1000 per entry
* Short Fictions – Rs 1000 per entry
* Campus Films (Student films) – Rs 500 per entry
Deadline: May 5, 2025
Notification Date: May 31, 2025
