
These are our fifteen recommended short films from the Jeonju International Film Festival, which is taking place from May 1 – 10, 2024 in Jeonju, South Korea.

Allergic to by Kwon Sumin – Korea | 2024 – 27 minutes | World Premiere
Haesoo, allergic to lying, experiences her first kiss with Siyeon. However, she feels uncomfortable about the kiss and their sexualised touching. Seeing herself different from others, Haesoo thinks, “Do I not love Siyeon?” and feels confused about her love. Because she is uncomfortable with the word ‘love’, her back is getting more severe allergic reaction. (Jeonju 2024)

Dad’s Beddy by Lee Yujin – Korea | 2024 – 31 minutes | World Premiere
Hye-young meets her dead father in her dream. In the midst of her tears, Hye-young is woken up by her cousin Eunji. (Jeonju 2024)

Farewell by Gong Seonjeong – Korea | 2023 – 26 minutes | World Premiere
Yeong-ju lost a friend because of the ‘Seoul Halloween crowd crush’ in 2022. Unable to recover from the trauma, she took a leave of absence from college and volunteered to give career counselling to middle school students while undergoing psychiatric treatment. As time passed and both her treatment and volunteer work came to an end, the traumatic autumn came around again. (Jeonju 2024)

There is a student who cannot accept her grades. She cancels plans with friends and waits for the professor. (Jeonju 2024)

Guidance by Dokkaebi Fire by Justin Jinsoo Kim – Korea, USA | 2024 – 19 minutes | World Premiere
For the purpose of collection, preservation, and recording, numerous faces that existed in different times and places densely gather in a single space. Among them are photos of Koreans taken during the Japanese occupation era for physical measurements and Buddha statues with severed heads for reasons unknown. (Jeonju 2024)

Missing Child by Han Hye-hyun – Korea | 2024 – 25 minutes | World Premiere
Hyeon-yeong, mother to ten-year-old Jiho, finds herself in a perplexing situation when Seongmin, her son’s friend, vanishes without a trace. Since his disappearance, Seongmin’s mother, Suwon, has begun showing up at their home unannounced. (Jeonju 2024)

Not Alone by Lee Kyoungho – Korea | 2024 – 27 minutes | World Premiere
Sun-mi, who is visually impaired, moves out of her house after an argument with her mother. In order to make a living, she starts to work at a cafe run by her close friend from college. And one day, a rather quiet customer pays a visit to the cafe. (Jeonju 2024)

Sunha is photographed up her skirt by a boy on the bus. Her teacher asks her to forgive the perpetrator, just like her mother’s attitude when Sunha was molested by her biological brother. Sunha tries to give the best voice she can. (Jeonju 2024)

A secluded house in the countryside, Seori feels cold even in the middle of summer. Late at night, when the water in her house is cut off, she goes to a neighbor’s house with her young son to borrow water. (Jeonju 2024)

Sujin, the class president, accidentally hurts deaf classmate Juyeon. Sujin visits Juyeon at home with her friends to apologize, but Juyeon refuses to accept her apology and Sujin’s friends turn out to be of no help, either. (Jeonju 2024)

A boy takes care of his sick mother while his father works at sea. He suffers from terrible nightmares, haunted by the worst imaginations about his mother and father. One day, he sees a girl dragging a huge rock along the beach. Intrigued, he follows her home and discovers how she managed to escape the worst imaginations. (Jeonju 2024)

Mijoo, who misses her dead grandfather, spends the day alone in the country house where her grandfather lived. While she is riding a bicycle, her grandfather appears in front of her, and Mijoo is confused about whether it is a dream or a reality. (Jeonju 2024)
