
“Snow in Midsummer” directed by Chong Keat-aun, and “Be With Me” directed by Hwarng Wern-ying will open the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival which will take place from November 9 – 26, 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.

On 13th May 1969, while Ah Eng and her mother are watching Chinese opera Snow in June at a temple in Kuala Lumpur, a violent riot takes place. As the Prime Minister declares a national state of emergency, she loses contact with her father and brother. On 13th May 2018, Ah Eng comes across the Chinese opera chief on that same day 49 years ago. Together they share a moment of powerless remembrance of a more peaceful period in time. (TGHFF 2023)

Chong Keat-aun’s directorial debut, The Story of Southern Islet, won Best New Director, the FIPRESCI Prize and the NETPAC Award at Golden Horse 2020. In 2023, Snow in Midsummer competed in the Giornate degli Autori at Venice.

After turning down a second suitor, Faye, passionate for both romance and career, recalls that her grandfather was the first man to show her the way of the world. This is a spiritual and emotional journey, and what Faye has been yearning for is not a “home” in the conventional sense but a “hotel”, which she owns and designs by herself like her grandfather used to.
