27th Vancouver Asian Film Festival – Closing Film 2023

Gonta: The Story of The Two-Named Dog in The Fukushima Disaster directed by Akio Nishizawa will close the Vancouver Asian Film Festival which will take place from November 2 – 12, 2023 in Vancouver, Canada.

Gonta: The Story of The Two-Named Dog in The Fukushima Disaster by Akio Nishizawa – Japan | 2023 – 114 minutes | Animation
On March 11, 2011, a major earthquake hit. Hoping they could return soon the family evacuated, leaving their pet, Gonta, behind. However, a nuclear plant accident prevented their return. Volunteers saved Gonta, but his remaining time was limited. (VAFF 2023)

About the director:
Akio Nishizawa was born in Tokyo and is 81 years old. At the age of 60, he ventured into anime production, transitioning from the field of education. He aims to create works that are closer to live-action rather than manga-like anime characterized by exaggerations and omissions.
