The Buckingham Murders by Hansal Mehta – India, UK | 2023
Set in the quaint borough of High Wycombe, England, The Buckingham Murders is the story of a grieving cop who loses her child to murder and moves to another town where she’s tasked with investigating the disappearance of a missing child. Exploring themes of trauma, grief, the immigrant experience, and our very innate need for closure, the film illustrates the polarised nature of our times and the human cost of that divide. About the Director:
Hansal Mehta is a Mumbai-based National Award-winning filmmaker known for directing films such as Shahid (2012), CityLights (2014), Aligarh (2015), Omerta (2017), Scam 1992 (2020; a series on the white-collar criminal Harshad Mehta), and Faraaz (2022). Mehta’s films have tackled subjects that do not fall into the traditional binaries of good and evil. In June this year, Mehta’s Netflix series, Scoop, opened to rave reviews. Presently, he is developing a biopic on Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, an official adaptation of the historian Ramachandra Guha’s book, Gandhi Before India. The Buckingham Murders premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October.
