The Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) is calling for short film projects from Asian young filmmakers, for the International Film Camp (IFC) which will take place from April 9 -13, 2024. The deadline to submit is January 5, 2024.

About the Asian Film Awards Academy:
The Asian Films Awards Academy, a non-profit organization, was founded by Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo International Film Festivals with the shared goal of celebrating excellence in Asian cinema. Aiming to promote and recognize Asian films and its talents, AFAA highlights, strengthens and develops Asian film industry through the annual Asian Film Awards and several year-round initiatives.

Overview:
16 participants of the IFC will attend a 5-day camp in Macau from April 9 to 13, 2024. To facilitate travel, participants are required to arrive on April 8, and depart on April 14.

By mid-March, participants are required to send English scripts of their short films to be shared with IFC mentors for discussion during the camp.

During the IFC, participants will attend one-on-one sessions with mentors to discuss on their short film projects; and workshops and masterclasses hosted by experienced filmmakers on the creative and business aspects of film industry. Participants are expected to gain knowledge and insights that help them re-write their scripts. By the end of the 5-day camp, all participants will pitch their projects to the jury who will then select 8 projects, each to be awarded with HKD300,000 fund to produce their short films.

Eligibility:
– Applicant must be of the Asian nationality, origin or residence;
– Applicant must be between the age of 21 to 40;
– Applicant should not have made more than ONE feature-length film before;
– Applicant must have prior experience in making films, and demonstrate a talent and potential in film through short films and/or other video works;
– Knowledge in English is a MUST. Some fluency in Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin) is an advantage;
– Participant must be able to attend the full duration of the IFC in-person in Macau;
– Applicant must submit completed applications with all specified supporting documents by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered;
– Successful applicants must be responsible for their own insurance and visas.

Selection Criteria:
– Demonstration of commitment and aspiration to the development of Asian film industry and culture;
– Demonstration of talent and ability in creating quality film production;
– Demonstration of passion and eagerness to communication
– Demonstration of the IFC’s benefits to applicant’s future professional development;
– Professional reference (if any).

Application Method:
– Apply via email before the deadline (January 5, 2024 – 6:00PM – GMT+8)
– Pay the application fee HKD 100, which is non refundable, via Paypal or bank transfer.
– Deliver the following documents in English;
* Copy of passport or other valid identification document proving Asian nationality, origin or residence;
* Payment proof of application fee
* Completed Application Form;
* Resume, including filmography and education, of the applicant AND at least one other key member of applicant’s team such as producer;
* One-page treatment for short narrative fiction film project (15-20 minutes) on the theme of “My Hometown”;
* Approx. 5-minute sample reel of the proposed short film project on the theme of “My Hometown” OR previous works made by the applicant;
* One-page statement and vision for the project and career ambitions; and
* Estimated broad production budget

Please submit all application materials via email to ifc(at)afa-academy.com in one PDF document and title the file ‘2024_IFC_APPLICANT’S NAME’. (Please insert name in English alphabet for “APPLICANT’S NAME”) and state “AFAA – International Film Camp” in the email subject. Incomplete application will not be accepted. Any application received after the deadline will not be accepted.

Selection and Announcement of Results:
– Short-listed applicants will be notified in February 2024 and invited to undertake an online interview with a panel. The AFAA will inform successful applicants by mid-March 2024. Only successful applicants will be contacted. Once the application is selected, the applicant will be required to accept within five days of receipt of notification.
