Little Nicholas: Happy As Can Be by Amandine Fredon, Benjamin Massoubre – Luxembourg, France | 2022 – 86 minutes
Little Nicholas lives a merry and enriching childhood, misbehaving with classmates in the classroom, stealing the spotlight with friends on the playground, and teasing and bickering with their parents. His mischievous antics drove the adults crazy every day! One, day, miraculously, Nicholas jumped out of the drawing paper and met the artist Sempé and the writer Goscinny, who gave him “life”. Through exchanging stories, the three become close friends who could talk about anything! However, while Nicholas enjoyed his carefree childhood, the two troubled friends struggled to find inspiration for their creations, always burdened by the constraints and worries of adulthood. Thus, beneath the mysterious encounter and emotional bond, Little mischievous Nicholas, the artist Sempé, and the writer Goscinny embark on a journey to find the “source of joy”!

In 1995, the illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé and the writer René Goscinny established Éditions Denoël and crated the iconic character “Little Mischievous Nicholas.” Their partnership marked a significant moment, filled with warmth and nostalgia, rather than simply being a farewell to the past.
