We continue with our list of short films you shouldn’t miss at the San Diego Filipino Film Festival which will take place from October 3 – 8, 2023 in San Diego, United States.

Kilig! by Kacey Layson – USA | 2023 – 6 minutes
“A film about a mother and daughter, meeting each other where they are.”
A reluctant Filipino-American daughter takes a trip with her mother to the island of Palawan to visit family. Their priorities clash but eventually find a way back to each other. (SDFFF 2023)

EVE, a Filipino-American teenage girl, writes a suicide note and leaves the house to get cigarettes for one last smoke. When she meets DAWN who pulls her into a fun ride — her mother discovers her suicide note, while she rediscovers life. (SDFFF 2023)

Little Manila by Arthur Rodger ‘Harley’ Maranan – Canada | 2022 – 11 minutes
A Vancouver-based travel agent tries to recreate her ailing Filipino housemaid’s childhood home before she dies. Little Manila is the story of Ms. Castro, a Vancouver-based travel agent who, with the help of her son, struggles to recreate their ill Filipino housemaid’s childhood home before she dies. While the mother-son duo endeavor to fulfill her dying wish, Yaya (housekeeper) asks to see her sister, Angel, whom she hadn’t talk to since leaving the Philippines. Desperate to allow Yaya one last goodbye, Ms. Castro risks the whole facade by disguising herself as Yaya’s sister, but gets more than she bargains for. (SDFFF 2023)

Luzonensis Osteoporosis by Glenn Barit – Philippines | 2023 – 20 minutes
Luzonensis is a prehistoric hominid who is about to leave overseas to be a migrant worker. Hours before departing, he discovers that his passport is missing. Together with his father, they retrace their path to find it. Luzonensis ponders on who he is and his place in the Philippines as their backs ache along the way. (SDFFF 2023)

Pink Matter by Aaron Velasco – USA | 2022 – 19 minutes
On his birthday a young man named Nehemiah is brought to a motel by his friends Niko and Marvin with the sole purpose of losing his virginity to a prostitute. However, when he is brought up to meet Chastity the prostitute Nehemiah has an anxiety initiating a heartfelt conversation between the two strangers. (SDFFF 2023)

SB19 I Want You – The Making Film by Jed Regala – Philippines | 2023 – 12 minutes
A captivating documentary that delves into the journey of a prominent P-pop group as they venture beyond their comfort zone. Fueled by their passion for music and a desire for artistic growth, the group takes a daring leap by releasing their first RnB track. This momentous decision sets the stage for a transformative experience captured in the form of a mesmerizing music video. (SDFFF 2023)
